Thousands of people in central and eastern Ohio are facing hunger. They are children, elderly people, and families; they are neighbors, coworkers, and friends. As the economic crisis continues and unemployment numbers increase, the need for emergency food assistance is greater than ever. When bills loom and impossible decisions must be made, food dollars are often the first to be cut.  Meals are skipped. Parents go without to make sure a child is fed.

Each year, Mid-Ohio Foodbank joins forces with local businesses, schools, civic groups, and individuals (like me!) to raise critically needed donations for the Operation Feed community food drive.  This effort helps stock the shelves of hundreds of food pantries, soup kitchens and emergency shelters in central and eastern Ohio.

Because I don't want neighbors in my community to face hunger, I've decided to take action. This year, I am dedicating my training and my race in the Cap City Half Marathon on May 1st to Operation Feed via the
2010 Virtual Food Drive. I want to invite you to part of my effort. Every dollar raised provides two meals for someone in need. The 2010 Operation Feed goal is to raise 6,000,000 meals, and to get there we need your help.

To help me fight hunger in our community, please support my efforts.  Then you can invite your family and friends to help.

Every donation counts. One hundred percent of your gift to the Operation Feed Virtual Food Drive will provide food for people in need. For every dollar raised, Operation Feed is able to provide two meals. A donation of just $12.50 provides 25 meals for those less fortunate.

It doesn?t take a lot to make a lot of difference. Consider the following examples:

  • Packing lunch for one week instead of buying out saves $25, which provides 50 meals for a worker just laid-off from his job.
  • Renting a movie at home instead of buying movie tickets and snacks for a family of four saves $50, which provides 100 meals for a hard-working single mother and her children.
  • Cutting-out one grande coffee each week for a year saves $100, which provides 200 meals for an elderly couple on a fixed income.

When everyone does a little, Mid-Ohio Foodbank can do a lot!

March 2, 2010 Training Update
The Cap City Half Marathon is around the corner on May 1st. I somehow managed to get one of my weekly long runs up to 10-miles already. Not sure where that came from but am thrilled. My pace is significantly slower than normal, but hopefully with continued effort it will improve.
It's amazing how once you force yourself to run 10 miles, 5 miles is a piece of cake!
As you know, this year I am dedicating my training and race to the Mid Ohio Food Bank's Operation Feed via a Virtual Food Drive. Please join me in raising money for this cause. My initial goal was $1301.00 but today I sat in the orientation for this campaign with many corporations. They have power in numbers. But I have amazing friends and family. Let's show them the power of individuals!
Mark the calendar for May 1st. Having you at the sidelines during the race is inspiring and motivating.
My thanks and regards!
Julie
