Lambda Chi Alpha
Since 1993, Lambda Chi Alpha chapters across the country have taken an active role in ending world hunger, and have raised more than 40 million pounds of food for the needy. On Saturday, July 27th, Lambda Chi Alpha announced a new partnership with Feeding America, the nation's largest non-governmental, domestic hunger relief organization. This new partnership is an opportunity to significantly increase the amount of food and funds our nearly 200 chapters collect and donate to local food banks.
This year, the Denison University chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha has partnered with other Greek organizations and the Denison community to assist Mid-Ohio Foodbank, our local Feeding America affiliate. Since 1980, Mid-Ohio Foodbank has been working with grocers, food companies, Ohio farmers, the USDA, and community partners to obtain food and distribute it across central and eastern Ohio. Mid-Ohio Foodbank distributed over 50 million pounds of food last year, enabling food pantries, soup kitchens and emergency shelters across 20 counties to provide food for more than 107,000 meals each day.
Additional statisics about Mid-Ohio Foodbank:
- More than 248,000 individuals receive emergency food each year through Mid-Ohio Foodbank.
- 35% of food requests from pantries are for children. 15% are for senior citizens.
- About half of client households have at least one working adult.
- Only 5% of clients are homeless; 1 in 5 is a homeowner.
